Courchevel

Courchevel is a winter sports resort of the Tarentaise valley located in the municipality of Courchevel (until 2016, the municipality of Saint-Bon-Tarentaise ), in the department of Savoie in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . First French station converted into a virgin site in 1946 , it is part of the Trois-Vallées ski area .

The resort is organized around five villages: Saint-Bon-Tarentaise (chief town), Courchevel Le Praz (called before 2011 Courchevel 1300 ), Courchevel Village (formerly Courchevel 1550 ), Courchevel Moriond (formerly Courchevel 1650 ) and finally Courchevel (formerly Courchevel 1850 ). The latter, which gives its name to the station, is the first development center where the work of the urban architect Laurent Chappisand the engineer Maurice Michaud applies . This new urbanization of the mountain has been the subject of an inscription in the supplementary inventory of historic monumentsin 1998, and about thirty sites are protected as historical monuments .

The resort is not limited to the only winter season and its practices of skiing, it is equipped in particular with collective infrastructures of leisures and sports, like a water park opened in December 2015, and proposes other practices in connection with the mountain during the summer, with hiking or mountain biking , but also its international festival of pyrotechnic art or the exhibition organization of contemporary art . After having been a place of accommodation and the theater of sporting events of the Olympic Winter Games of Albertville 1992 , Courchevel will welcome, jointly with Méribel ,

Courchevel generally enjoys a ”  high-end  ” image both in the national and international media and in the more specialized literature, as well as other Savoyard stations . Specializing in hotels and luxury shops, the resort is very popular with the Russian upper middle class .
